We all talk about electricity, electrical companies, or electrical work but have you ever wondered what is electricity itself?

Electricity is a type of energy that is in constant movement. To be more precise little particles that are called electrons are in constant movement. This process creates electricity.  Electric current is measured in amperes, called amps for short. You might have seen this on your electrical devices. Many interesting facts have to be mentioned. Here are some of them that we think you might enjoy.

Electricity travels at the speed of light more than 186,000 miles per second!

LED light bulbs use about one-sixth of the electricity that conventional bulbs do, cost about a quarter as much to use, and lasts about 40 times longer.

As an example of how much more efficient modern appliances are, a fridge from the mid-80s, 30 years ago, used four times as much electricity as a modern one

Electric fields work in a similar way to gravity. Whereas gravity always attracts, electric fields can either attract or repulse.

We hope you enjoyed it!

Have you ever heard about clean electricity? You may never have thought about the fact that using electricity can be very harmful to the environment. with pandemics still going on cycles for over a year with having to be isolated and switch mostly to online platforms we realize that consuming electricity has raised a lot and is harming the environment.

Clean energy operates by producing needed power without having negative environmental impacts such as the release of greenhouse gasses like carbon dioxide. Local governments can dramatically reduce their carbon footprint by purchasing or directly generating electricity from clean, renewable sources.

The most common renewable power technologies include:

  • Solar (photovoltaic, solar thermal)
  • Wind
  • Biogas (e.g., landfill gas/wastewater treatment digester gas)
  • Geothermal
  • Biomass
  • Low-impact hydroelectricity
  • Emerging technologies – wave and tidal power

Generating energy that produces no greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels and reduces some types of air pollution. Diversifying energy supply and reducing dependence on imported fuels. It Creates economic development and jobs in manufacturing, installation, and more.

Have you ever wondered what happens after your call to an electrician in Fort Myers? It seems very easy for a customer to call when they have an electrical problem then an electrician comes to your place does the work and you pay the bill and it seems very easy and yet nothing is these easy. Electrical companies in Fort Myers have to go through various types of processes until your call becomes work and you get your problem fixed.

Once you call to speak with a person responsible for understanding what type of problem you have, they get your information and try to find the best time available to schedule an appointment. This usually processes where the customer is present as well and is very important to make sure the communication is effective and none of the information is missed. As from the side of customers do not hesitate to give all the information you have regarding the problem, even if you think it might not be important. Once the customer hangs up the process this is where all the magic happens. The whole information is transformed and entered into the system, which is translated for the electrician. The timing for the scheduling is double-checked and now the communication with the call center and electrician happens where the electrician has to gather information on what type of tools or parts might be needed for this job and if any need to be ordered or purchased. Before arriving at the customer’s house the electrician has to have everything needed. Once a Work order is created and the electrician is done with the work there is, even more, to go through such as managing the estimate and sending it out or giving the customer an invoice. The whole information is transformed and entered into the system, which is translated for the electrician. It is pretty complex and interesting to understand how much of a work is behind every single job.

It has become part of our daily lives to use many extension cords to plug various appliances and chargers in order to go through the day. It seems to be almost impossible to live in the 2021 without so many electronics and therefore extension cords seem to be a very good solution. Extension cords can be very good solution for a short solutions and very convenient however they are not necessarily the safest electrical options for your home as electrical companies in Fort Myers suggest.

The reason why they cannot be fully trusted is the fact that they present additional tripping and fire hazards. The point is that they are not meant to be used full-time and can be temporary solution. In the long run it is way better and safer to have additional electrical outlets installed. When you do use electrical cords, make sure they are inspected before each use to ensure they are not damaged. If you see your extension cord is damaged or hot to the touch, be sure to dispose of it right away.

Do you spend lots of times out in your yard? If you do then you understand how important it is to have outlets when you are outdoors for various reasons. But what type of outlets should you have? It is important to remember that you cannot have the same outlets as you have inside.  Outdoor electrical outlets should have weatherproof covers protecting them.

It will save you from unwanted accidents when it is raining.

  • Select the right kind of outdoor outlet.
National Electrical Code REQUIRES the use of ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlets for safety. Only this type of outlet is safe for outdoor use.
  • Ensure proper installation.
Be sure to install the outlet with a gasket and a cover plate, sealing the connection to the wall, or attaching a weatherproof cover.
  • Add a weatherproof cover.
The little flip-up tabs that cover your outdoor electrical outlets are only enough to protect the outlet when it’s NOT in use. Luckily, the addition of a properly connected weatherproof cover can allow you use of the plug while safeguarding it against moisture – even allowing for use in the rain. Sometimes referred to as ‘flip up’ or ‘bubble covers,’ these outlet additions are now mandatory as per the National Electrical code

Whenever you are thinking of making a hole on a to put up a nice family picture or whenever you are thinking to dig on your lawn think twice about it and do some research about your property. Drilling a wall or digging can be very dangerous because you might hit electrical cords and metal is a very good conductor which basically means it is a very good transport for electricity which allows atoms to flow freely. Once you decide to do this first examine which are safe places and where you would find electric wires.
One common rule is to avoid drilling around light switches and sockets, as the electrical wires can go horizontally and vertically around these fixtures
The trickiest part about hanging heavy objects is that they may require a stud for stability. Hanging a heavy object off a stud can be done, but you need to know how thick the stud is, as well as how the wires are attached to it.

When taking care of the house it is very important to understand that electrical wiring is a very dangerous thing and needs very careful approach to it. When thinking of taking care of home it has to be understood that yard and all the wires outside also are part of the whole household and need some attention as well. Sometimes when tress grow, their branches start to overgrow and apply pressure on electrical cords. If the branches on your property are growing a little too close to any power lines, have them trimmed to prevent any downed power lines during high winds or thunderstorms. It will help you save yourself from unfortunate events. Speaking of outside it is important to also note If you’re going to set up your mp3 player or smartphone outside to play some music while you grill out, make sure that you are using the right extension cord. What is the right extension cord? One that is rated for outdoor use. There’s a good chance it will be exposed to moisture outside – and an outdoor-rated extension cord will be able to handle small exposure to water.

For this week we have gathered couple of tips which are not necessary related but we thing would be very useful for you to live in a safer environment.

It is much better to unplug them to prevent overheating, overloading, or surging stand by electrical power. When the users don’t use the appliances, the electricity keeps flowing, and it is called standby power. Unplugging appliances that are not used will stop stand by power and save you electricity and can reduce your electric bill.

Extension cords can be a trip hazard and can overload a circuit, you should avoid using extension cords except in periodic situations. If you do find that you regularly uses an extension cord, such as to reach a corner lamp, then consider calling in a licensed electrician to install more accessible outlets.
If you ever have to deal with electrical issues, always cut the power at the breaker box. Before you start work, test to make sure the outlet, fixture, or switch is shut off. Then plug something in, flip the switch, and use a tester. It will only take a few seconds to cut the power and test the circuit. But we would still suggest not to touch anything as you can make the problem even worse and let professionals do their job.

One would be surprised to hear how many injuries are caused by electrical outlets. Individuals need to regularly check electrical outlets and plugs for tell-tale signs of fire or wiring issues. Any faulty plugs (such as plugs with exposed wires) should be replaced immediately. One very obvious sign that an outlet needs an immediate check-up is the discolored spots around outlets. According to the National Fire Protection Association, a discolored wall outlet can be caused by “arcing, smoldering, burning happening behind your outlets, damaged or improperly installed wiring in the outlet, or a problem with the receptacle itself.”
Another thing that one should look out for is the tingling sensation when plugging appliances. Sometimes you cannot see the signs of a problem with an electrical plug or outlet; instead, you will be able to smell, feel or hear the issue. In any case, we would recommend checking with licensed electricians.

Have you ever tried to change a lightbulb yourself? If so then this blog is for you.
It is very good to know some of the facts prior to deciding to do something yourself without an electrician’s help. First of all, it is essential to understand that today there are more than dozen variations of lightbulbs and it is needed to understand which one is that you need. Another tip that might seem obvious but can become a crucial step in everybody’s lives is before changing the light bulb make sure that the lights are off and you do not forget about them. If this does not happen then you are facing to shock yourself while working. Another very important thing that needs to be remembered is that a bulb can get very hot and you can burn your hand if you touch it unprepared. The next step, luckily for us, is the second potentially dangerous step in changing your light bulb.

It’s crucial that you find a secure platform to stand on while you work. This can be a chair, table, step ladder or otherwise. The important thing is that you should be able to stand on it without it rocking or tipping to any big extent.

Working from the light bulb replacement guide above, choose a replacement that either matches the old bulb or is more appropriate. An important part of this decision is in choosing a power rating to match your fitting.
